Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship Recognition AAEOP promotes professionalism in many ways - it exists for YOU, the member. One great benefit of membership in AAEOP is the provision for financial assistance as you continue your education for the benefit of your employment. If you are pursuing a course of study beneficial to your educational office profession you need to apply for the Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship! You could receive up to $150 per course of study, and you can apply for a second and subsequent scholarship!
As stated in the mission statement, AAEOP is dedicated to providing professional and personal growth opportunities and exemplifies Service, Information, Recognition, and Fellowship. The Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship exemplifies the four points of our Association by providing a service to you (financial assistance) as you obtain information that benefits you as an educational office employee, for which you can be recognized if you pursue certification through the Professional Standards Program. Additionally, recognition is lovingly given to Past President Vern Harrison for her contribution and dedication to AAEOP right up to her untimely death. Vern is also remembered because of the fellowship she enjoyed and graciously demonstrated throughout her years of service to AAEOP and her profession.
So let me encourage you to take that summer class, workshop or seminar that meets the criteria for the Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship (the guidelines are listed below) and take advantage of just one of the many great reasons to be a member of AAEOP!

Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship Guidelines
The Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship was established in memory of Vern Harrison, President of the Arkansas Association of Educational Office Professionals, to assist members of AAEOP in continuing education for the benefit of their employment.
Scholarship(s) shall be awarded by the Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship Committee consisting of three (3) AAEOP members. A chairman will be named by the AAEOP president. The chairman will recruit two (2) AAEOP members to serve as committee members.
The Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship is a continuing education scholarship; value is tied to fees paid by recipient(s). Maximum value of the monies of the scholarship(s) is $150.
Scholarship applicants shall be evaluated by the Committee on the following criteria:
A. Applicant must have been an AAEOP member for the two (2) years immediately preceding the date of the scholarship application deadline.
B. Applicant must be pursuing a course of study beneficial to their educational office profession.
C. A rating system of 100 points shall be used in determining the scholarship recipient(s).
1. Up to 50 points may be awarded for participation and leadership in local affiliate, if possible, AAEOP and/or NAEOP
2. Up to 30 points may be awarded for statement of need.
3. Up to 20 points may be awarded for completeness and neatness of application.
Upon receipt of documentation to the AAEOP treasurer that recipient has enrolled in a specific continuing education program, money shall be forwarded to the recipient. The approved monies will be valid for the enrollment term following the awarding of the scholarship(s).
AAEOP members may apply for a scholarship as many times as they desire. In order to be eligible for a second or subsequent scholarship award, an applicant must have shown satisfactory completion of course(s) during the term for which the previous scholarship award was made.
Completed applications must be submitted to the Vern Harrison Memorial Member Scholarship Committee Chairman of the Arkansas Association of Educational Office Professionals, postmarked by January 1 (spring), May 1 (summer), or September 1 (fall).
More than one scholarship may be approved during a fiscal year provided funds are available. No scholarships will be awarded if the Scholarship Committee concludes that no applicant meets the specified qualifications A and B.
